Erik Castro has won multiple National Press Photographers Association Awards for his documentary work and more recently for his wildfire coverage in Lake County, California in 2016. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin where he also received a Hearst Award for his photo essay on a prison rehabilitation program.
Originally from Los Angeles, he began his career as a documentary photographer in Seattle during the late 1990s focusing on issues concerning low-income residents and those struggling with drug and alcohol addictions.
His images have been exhibited in Los Angeles, Seattle and Northern California and he is a frequent contributing photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle and The Press Democrat. Erik Castro is based in Santa Rosa, California.
